Students at Cypress Creek High School can spin flags and dance at Friday night football games this fall if they make the school's Color Guard team, which is holding open auditions Friday, Aug. 21, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the CCHS Band Room.
No prior experience is needed. The school's announcement, posted Aug. 3, says all CCHS students are welcome to try out, whether brand new or seasoned performers. Students just need to show up in athletic clothing with a water bottle.
At auditions, students will learn the CCHS Fight Song pom routine and get introduced to flag basics. First practice for new members follows four days later on Tuesday, Aug. 25, same time and place.
The Color Guard performs as part of the Marching Band of Coyotes. That means pregame pom-and-flag routines, pom dances in the stands alongside the band, halftime shows at home football games, pep rallies and three Saturday band competitions throughout the fall.
The program also fields a Winter Guard ensemble that competes as a standalone group during winter and spring through the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit. The Color Guard has competed in the FFCC since 2022.
Guard Instructor Carly Bronson leads the Color Guard, with Director of Bands Alain Rodriguez overseeing the broader marching band program. Families with questions can reach Bronson at [email protected] or Rodriguez at [email protected].
The auditions come early in the new school year, giving incoming freshmen and new students a quick way to plug into campus life. The school encourages students to bring a friend to auditions.
Cypress Creek's performing arts program also includes the annual Festival of the Arts, where Color Guard performs alongside dance, music and theater ensembles from the school's Conservatory of the Arts.
Wesley Chapel families looking for other ways to get involved at CCHS still have time to apply for the Carmine the Coyote mascot role, as we reported July 22. Mascot applications close Aug. 14.
