Cypress Creek High School wants a student in the Carmine the Coyote suit when fall sports open Sept. 4.
The Wesley Chapel school posted the mascot application on its website Wednesday, giving juniors and seniors just over three weeks to apply. The deadline is Aug. 14. Whoever lands the role will represent the Coyotes at games, pep rallies and school events for the entire 2026-27 athletic year.
Who can apply
The eligibility bar is specific. Applicants must be current 11th- or 12th-grade students who carry at least a 3.0 GPA. They need fewer than 10 minor infractions on their discipline record and no Level 2 or Level 3 referrals. Attendance matters too: fewer than 10 absences or tardies. Students must also be available for after-school activities throughout the year.
What happens after you apply
Meeting the requirements doesn't guarantee the costume. According to the school's announcement, selected applicants will be invited to an in-person audition where they'll need to demonstrate energy, creativity and school spirit. Students chosen for the audition round will be notified by email.
The school described the mascot position as a chance to build leadership and performance skills while representing Cypress Creek at athletic and community events.
The bigger picture for Coyotes athletics
Cypress Creek, located at 8701 Old Pasco Road, is entering its 10th year. Athletic Director Tico Hernandez oversees the Coyotes' programs, which compete across FHSAA district play in the school's green and yellow. The Sept. 4 date marks the official start of fall sports season, though specific opponents and game times have not yet been released.
Pasco County high school athletics serves more than 8,300 students districtwide, according to a May school board workshop.
