Wesley Chapel families waiting for relief from crowded schools now have a timeline. Two new campuses are targeted to open in 2028: a medical magnet high school and a K-8 school.

The projects are part of Pasco County Schools' 10-year capital plan, which calls for new campuses and expansions through fiscal year 2034-35.

As of Oct. 15, 2025, Wiregrass Ranch High School was operating at 143% capacity and Wesley Chapel High School at 134%, making them the county's two most overcrowded high schools, Tampa Bay Beacons reported in January.

"These are our most critical areas right now," Chris Williams, the district's director of planning, told the Beacons. "That's where the growth and the capacity pressures are."

What's coming to Wesley Chapel

A $69 million medical magnet high school is planned for roughly 75 acres of district-owned land on the west side of Meadow Pointe Boulevard, north of Chancey Road. The campus is expected to accommodate about 1,300 students.

Plans call for programs in nursing, medical laboratory science and imaging, along with simulated surgical and operating room labs. Students from across Pasco County would be eligible to apply.

The district also plans to work with Pasco-Hernando State College to create pathways into nursing and allied health programs. Unlike some previous magnet schools, the campus is expected to include athletic facilities.

Two Rivers K-8, budgeted at $93.4 million, is planned north of State Road 56 between Gall Boulevard and Morris Bridge Road. It will serve the Two Rivers development and surrounding communities.

The district's 2026-27 tentative budget identifies both schools as anticipated to open in 2028.

Planners originally hoped to build a high school in the Two Rivers area, but land costs limited the district to an $8.15 million purchase of 23.43 acres, enough for a K-8 campus.

More campuses planned

Three future schools are planned in Bexley: a $91.5 million high school in fiscal year 2031-32, followed by an $84.7 million middle school and $53.9 million elementary school in fiscal year 2034-35.

A K-8 school in the Villages of Pasadena Hills is budgeted at $95.6 million for fiscal year 2030-31.

Closer to Wesley Chapel, $6 million is allocated for a classroom wing at Kirkland Ranch K-8. Another $10.36 million is allocated in fiscal year 2034-35 toward a future K-8 school in the Central Pasco Employment Village, although that figure may not represent the eventual full construction cost.

Charter schools add seats

Charter schools are expanding separately in Wesley Chapel.

Mater Academy Northwood opened for the 2026-27 school year at 1180 Dunham Station Drive with pre-K4 through sixth grade. It plans to add higher grades as it expands toward a pre-K-12 program.

Discovery Academy of Science Pasco, a tuition-free STEM-focused charter school, is under construction near State Road 56 and Wyndfields Boulevard. It is scheduled to open in August 2027 with about 480 students in kindergarten through sixth grade.

The School Board adopted its five-year facilities work plan July 28.
