Publix is building a new supermarket at Wiregrass Commons in Wesley Chapel, adding a second location less than half a mile from its existing store on State Road 54.
The project, designated Publix #1504, is rising along Wiregrass Ranch Boulevard near SR 54, on the east side of the boulevard just south of its intersection with the highway and directly across from the Walmart Supercenter. Pasco County issued building permits on Dec. 24, 2025, and crews began clearing the 9.5-acre site by June.
Plans on file describe a roughly 48,848-square-foot supermarket paired with a 2,100-square-foot Publix Liquors and about 9,600 square feet of additional retail space. The shopping center, called Wiregrass Commons, would total around 60,548 square feet, according to Wesley Chapel community site reporting.
Project documents describe the store as one of Publix's newer prototype-style locations. Reported features include an expanded prepared-foods section, a deli island, a drive-thru pharmacy, patio seating and a beverage bar serving coffee, wine and beer. Final features could change before opening.
The new store will sit within Wiregrass Ranch, the master-planned community that includes the Wiregrass Ranch Sports Campus and a growing cluster of medical facilities. The site moved through Pasco County's planning process over several years. Publix submitted an early conceptual plan in 2022, filed formal plans in 2024 and received building permits late last year.
Publix has said the existing store at Hollybrook Plaza, at SR 54 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard, is not closing. That location has been renovated. Once Wiregrass Commons opens, Wesley Chapel will have two Publix supermarkets among the closest pairs of the chain's stores anywhere.
Publix media representatives have not commented publicly on the Wiregrass Commons project timeline or features.
The development's leasing materials estimate the store will open in the third quarter of 2027.
