The five-story children's hospital under construction near Interstate 75 and Overpass Road in Wesley Chapel now has its exterior walls, windows and roof in place. Interior work is underway, and the project remains on track for a fall 2027 opening.

Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Golisano Children's Medical Center at Wesley Chapel is part of an investment of more than $300 million on a 112-acre site in Pasco County. Construction began in 2025, and the building topped out with its final steel beam in May, according to Wesley Chapel Community. Crews are now installing drywall, electrical systems and plumbing inside the 56-bed facility, The Laker/Lutz News reported.

The hospital has also started hiring staff.

What the new hospital will offer

The campus will be the first Johns Hopkins All Children's location outside St. Petersburg. It will house a 17-room emergency department, four operating rooms, an infusion center, a sleep laboratory, a gastroenterology procedures suite, and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. The second floor will hold 25,000 square feet of outpatient care space with 36 rooms.

A record $40 million gift

The project gained national attention on Sept. 10 when Paychex founder Tom Golisano announced a $40 million donation, the largest single gift in the hospital system's 100-year history. The building was renamed in recognition of the gift.

"As a father and grandfather, I've seen firsthand what it means for a family to have a great children's hospital close to home in a difficult moment," Golisano said at the Sept. 10 announcement.

Jenine Rabin, executive vice president of Johns Hopkins All Children's, said the donation would help accelerate additional fundraising needed to complete the campus. Hospital officials have said philanthropy is expected to fund a significant portion of the project.

The Wesley Chapel campus joins the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national network of 21 children's hospitals that Golisano has supported with more than $750 million since October 2025. His $40 million gift to Wesley Chapel was part of a $225 million round of giving to six children's hospitals announced the same day.

Closing a gap in pediatric specialty care

The new hospital addresses a gap in pediatric specialty care for the region. According to Johns Hopkins All Children's, 93% of children in Pasco, Hernando and Citrus counties travel outside the area for specialty treatment. Joseph Perno, the chief administrative officer for the Wesley Chapel campus, said at the Sept. 10 event that the hospital would bring pediatric expertise the community needs.

Robins & Morton is the general contractor, with HKS serving as architect. The 112-acre site was designed with room for future expansion, according to Johns Hopkins All Children's.

No specific opening date has been announced.
