Three Wesley Chapel car dealerships are pooling $130,000 to fully fund the construction of a Habitat for Humanity home in Pasco County.

Wesley Chapel Toyota, Wesley Chapel Mazda and Wesley Chapel Chevrolet announced the joint commitment Saturday, July 19, through a press release issued by the Greater East Pasco Chamber of Commerce. The $130,000 covers what Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco County calls a "Whole Home Sponsorship," meaning the three businesses together are paying the full sponsorship cost for one new home.

"Their collective commitment will help build not only a house, but a foundation for stability, opportunity, and hope for a local family," Crystal Lazar, CEO of Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco County, said in the announcement.

The home will be built somewhere in East or Central Pasco County, though an exact location has not been disclosed. No construction timeline has been announced.

Families earn homeownership through Habitat program

The family selected for the home won't receive it for free. Under Habitat's model, partner families contribute sweat equity hours on the build site alongside volunteers and complete financial education and homeownership preparation courses. Once the house is finished, the family purchases it through an affordable mortgage.

Habitat for Humanity of East and Central Pasco County has been building homes in the region since 1994. The nonprofit serves communities east of the Suncoast Parkway, including Wesley Chapel, Zephyrhills, Dade City, Land O' Lakes and Lacoochee. Its administrative offices are in Dade City.

The sponsorship comes as affordable housing remains a persistent challenge across Florida, with the state's population growth straining available housing supply.
