Cypress Creek High School's homecoming football game Friday has been moved to Wesley Chapel High School's stadium because of field conditions at the Coyotes' home field.
Game Relocates to Rival's Home Field
The Coyotes will host Winter Haven at 7:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel High, 30651 Wells Rd. Tickets are still available through the Cypress Creek GoFan page, according to the school's announcement.
The school did not specify what field conditions forced the move. The announcement, posted Sept. 15, urged fans to show up at the new location, signing off with the Coyotes' rallying cry, "One Pack, One Purpose."
Winless Coyotes Seek First Victory of Season
Cypress Creek enters homecoming looking for its first win. The Coyotes are 0-3.
Their season opened with a 13-10 loss to Citrus on Aug. 21, followed by a 21-7 defeat against Gulf on Sept. 4. The Sept. 11 shutout against Land O'Lakes was the most lopsided of the three, a 35-0 blowout that dropped Cypress Creek to 0-1 in 5A District 7 play and fifth in the six-team district standings.
Winter Haven Brings Winning Record to Town
Head coach M. Johnson's squad faces a Winter Haven team that carries a 2-1 record into the matchup, per MaxPreps. The Blue Devils present a step up in competition for a Coyotes offense that has been outscored 69-17 through three games.
The game will also stream live on the NFHS Network for fans who can't make it to Wells Road.
Coyotes Return to Same Field Next Week
Wesley Chapel area fans will see the Coyotes on that same field again the following week. Cypress Creek's next game is a 5A District 7 matchup at Wesley Chapel on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7:30 p.m. That contest pits the Coyotes against the Wesley Chapel Wildcats, who sit at 1-3 overall and 0-1 in district play, according to the Wildcats' MaxPreps page.
Both teams need a district win to climb out of the bottom half of the 5A District 7 standings, making the Sept. 25 game a pivotal early-season test for two programs separated by fewer than five miles.
