Avalon Park Wesley Chapel has a new park, and a neighbor picked its name.
The park, now officially called Avalon Park Common, opened Friday, Sept. 25, in the downtown district of the master-planned community, Pasco County news reported. Avalon Park Group, the developer behind the community, hosted a grand opening celebration that evening.
Resident Desiree Gutierrez submitted the winning entry in a public naming contest. She was recognized at the event when the developer revealed the park's official name.
The celebration drew residents, families and guests for an evening of live music and family-friendly activities, Tampa Bay Beacons reported.
The park sits in the downtown area of Avalon Park Wesley Chapel near 4424 Friendly Way, Wesley Chapel 33545.
Bandshell on the way
Avalon Park Common won't stay as it is for long. Construction on a bandshell at the park is scheduled to begin in early 2027, according to the Pasco County news release. The addition would give the community a dedicated outdoor performance space in its downtown core.
Saturday market returns
The opening is already drawing new programming to the area. The Downtown Saturday Market is returning to Avalon Park Wesley Chapel with a refreshed format now that the park is open, according to the Avalon Park Wesley Chapel website. The market will run every second and fourth Saturday starting Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Avalon Park Wesley Chapel is a master-planned community developed by Avalon Park Group along the State Road 54 corridor in Wesley Chapel.
