Metro Development Group broke ground Tuesday, Sept. 1, on a new amenity center at Angeline, the 6,200-acre community in northern Land O' Lakes near State Road 52 and the Suncoast Parkway. The developer also announced a health care partnership with BayCare Health System that will place a registered nurse on site.

The Social will feature pool, pickleball courts

The amenity center, called The Social, will include a pool, pickleball courts, a dog park and a tot lot. Metro representatives and Pasco County leaders attended the ceremony, according to Tampa Bay Beacons.

Metro, BayCare launch health navigator program

At the same event, Metro and BayCare unveiled the Metro x BayCare Health Care Navigator Program. A registered nurse will keep regular hours inside Angeline and serve as residents' first point of contact for health and wellness questions.

Nurse to coordinate care, mobile unit visits

The nurse will also be available by phone, email and chat to coordinate appointments, connect residents with preventive screenings and help them find the right level of care. BayCare's mobile health unit will visit the community on a recurring schedule for vaccinations, blood pressure checks, glucose testing and other screenings.

Program details, launch timeline remain unclear

The nurse is not meant to replace a resident's doctor or handle emergencies, the Business Observer reported. Neither company disclosed the program's cost, when the nurse will begin working on site or how often the mobile unit will visit.

"Health and wellness are central to the way we design our communities, and that includes making access to quality care more convenient for our residents," Lisa Gibbings, Metro Development Group vice president of marketing and communications, said in a news release issued at the groundbreaking.

BayCare operates 16 hospitals across West Central Florida, including BayCare Hospital Wesley Chapel, which opened in 2023. The partnership gives BayCare a direct connection to one of Pasco County's largest residential developments, according to the Business Observer. Angeline is expected to house about 35,000 residents when fully built out.

Community includes school, research campus growth

The community has added hundreds of homes and a welcome center with a community garden since Metro acquired the property in 2018. Angeline is also home to the 775-acre Moffitt Speros campus, which will feature 140 buildings including clinics, research space and housing. Angeline Academy of Innovation, a $52.7 million magnet school now in its fourth year, sits within the development. Principal JoAnne Glenn attended the Sept. 1 groundbreaking, along with Brenda Garcia, principal of Angeline Country Day School.

No opening date for The Social has been set.
