Aldi has filed plans for a new grocery store on the south side of State Road 52 near the Mirada lagoon community in San Antonio.
The Tampa Bay Business Journal first reported Tuesday that the discount grocer submitted plans for the location. The proposed site sits near The Market at Mirada, a Publix-anchored shopping center at the corner of Mirada Boulevard and State Road 52.
A budget option next to Publix
For residents of Mirada, Epperson and Double Branch, the store would add a budget-focused grocery option alongside the existing 48,000-square-foot Publix. The Wesley Chapel Community Website described Aldi as offering a limited selection geared toward quick, low-cost grocery runs, a contrast to the full-service Publix next door.
Aldi expands across Pasco County
The filing is one of three Aldi locations proposed in Pasco County. The company has also proposed stores at State Road 52 and Little Road and in Odessa on the south side of State Road 54, according to the Tampa Bay Business Journal. In December 2025, Aldi filed plans to convert a former Winn-Dixie in New Port Richey into an Aldi store, part of a broader expansion following the company's 2024 acquisition of Winn-Dixie stores.
The State Road 52 corridor east of Interstate 75 has added retail as new neighborhoods fill in. The Market at Mirada is a 67,200-square-foot retail center developed by Batson-Cook Development Co. and Dunphy Development. Mirada itself spans about 1,950 acres with more than 4,500 homes planned, according to Batson-Cook's project page. The realigned State Road 52 runs 6 miles as a five-lane roadway through what the developer calls a growth corridor for the Tampa metro area.
Project still needs county approval
The Aldi project was an early-stage filing as of June 24, according to the Wesley Chapel Community Website. No store size, opening date or county hearing date has been publicly announced, and the project must still clear Pasco County review and permitting before construction can begin.
