Paychex founder Tom Golisano is giving $40 million to Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, the largest donation in the organization's 100-year history.

Hospital renamed for Golisano's donation

The gift will rename the children's hospital under construction near Interstate 75 and Overpass Road. The facility will now be called Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, Golisano Children's Medical Center at Wesley Chapel.

Construction part of $300 million expansion effort

The 5-story, 56-bed hospital at 29999 Boyette Road is part of a $300 million-plus investment on 112 acres, The Laker/Lutz News reported Thursday, Sept. 10. It is the first Johns Hopkins All Children's campus built outside St. Petersburg.

"As a father and grandfather, I've seen firsthand what it means for a family to have a great children's hospital close to home in a difficult moment," Golisano said. "My hope is that no family, no matter where they live or what they can afford, has to travel far or wonder if their child will get the best care available."

Golisano's alliance grows to 21 hospitals nationwide

The campus also joins the Golisano Children's Alliance, a national network of 21 children's hospitals. The Wesley Chapel gift is part of a $225 million commitment Golisano announced Sept. 10 to six children's hospitals nationwide. His total philanthropic investment in the alliance has reached $753 million.

Jenine Rabin, executive vice president of Johns Hopkins All Children's, said the donation will accelerate fundraising needed to complete the campus. Rabin said the hospital's goal is to fund a large portion of the project through philanthropy.

Hospital on track for fall 2027 opening

Construction began with a groundbreaking on March 27, 2025. Crews reached the topping-out milestone on May 8, and exterior walls, windows and the roof are now in place. Interior work including drywall, electrical and plumbing is underway. The project is on budget and on schedule for a fall 2027 opening, according to the hospital.

New facility to include emergency, surgery services

The 239,000-square-foot facility will include a 17-room emergency department, four operating rooms, an infusion center, a sleep laboratory and inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services. A second floor will hold 25,000 square feet of outpatient space with 36 rooms.

Hospital fills pediatric care gap in region

The hospital addresses a gap in pediatric care across Pasco County and surrounding areas. Johns Hopkins All Children's chief operating officer Justin Olsen said in February 2025 that 93% of families in Pasco, Citrus and Hernando counties travel outside the area for specialty pediatric care. Pasco's children's population is projected to grow 12% by 2032.

Hiring underway ahead of 2027 opening

Dr. Joseph Perno, chief administrative officer for the new hospital, said the facility will bring Johns Hopkins' pediatric expertise to the community. During a construction tour in May, Perno told WFLA the hospital will employ about 400 people.

Johns Hopkins All Children's has started hiring staff. The hospital is scheduled to open in fall 2027.
