New Branch Sits Near BayCare's Wesley Chapel Hospital

The Mary W. Sierra Family YMCA at 4379 Wellbeing Way sits at the southwest corner of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard and Eagleston Boulevard. The branch occupies land leased from BayCare Health System near its new Wesley Chapel hospital. The Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA's location page confirms the September 2026 timeline.

YMCA Leader Calls Project a Major Community Investment

Tampa YMCA President and CEO Matt Mitchell confirmed the schedule in an Aug. 20 letter to members, calling the project "a tremendous investment in a growing community," according to the Wesley Chapel Community Website. An exact opening date has not been announced.

Facility Expected to Serve Tens of Thousands of Households

The Tampa YMCA says the branch will sit within minutes of more than 40,000 households. The organization projects the facility will create more than 300 jobs in Pasco County. More than 27,000 youth and nearly 20,000 seniors live in the immediate service area, according to the YMCA.

Construction Nears Completion Ahead of Opening

Construction crews broke ground on May 28, 2025. As of the Wesley Chapel Community Website's Sept. 2 report, the indoor playground is complete, gym equipment is laid out, bikes are in the cycle room and the front desk is finished with marble countertops. Outdoor playground safety flooring and a shade canopy are in place.

Furniture for the Stay & Play child care area, including a puppet theater and a light table, has started arriving. Group exercise studios are getting finishing touches.

Amenities Will Include Aquatic Center and Wellness Floor

The facility will include an aquatic center with a lap pool, teaching pool and family adventure pool, group exercise studios, a wellness floor and locker rooms, according to the Tampa YMCA's press release.

New Branch Has Assembled Its Leadership Team

The YMCA has assembled a leadership team for the new branch, according to the Wesley Chapel Community Website. Membership Director Andi Cornett brings nearly nine years of YMCA experience. Wellness Director Becca Anderson has led programming at the Bob Sierra Family YMCA since 2023.

Sports Director Michael Loftin spent more than two decades in youth athletics with the Polk County School System. Family Program Director Anna Carman previously led family engagement at the YMCA of the Triangle in North Carolina.

Charter Membership Offers Perks Before Grand Opening

Residents who join as charter members before the grand opening receive a $0 join fee and immediate access to every other Tampa YMCA location. The Wesley Chapel Community Website reported that more than 100 families signed up during the first few days of online presales, before the branch had a physical membership office.

Programs Open for Enrollment Now

Youth programs including sports, swim lessons and Kids' Day Out are already open for enrollment. The YMCA also plans senior wellness programs and a Survivorship & Wellness Program for cancer survivors, developed with Moffitt.
