A 22-year-old Wesley Chapel woman's car struck and killed a motorcyclist who was lying injured on northbound Interstate 75 early Sunday, Oct. 4, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The chain-reaction crash began about 1:20 a.m. near milepost 266 in Hillsborough County, as Tampa Bay 28 reported, citing FHP.

Two Harley-Davidson motorcycles collided and overturned in the northbound travel lanes, troopers said.

Both riders, a 42-year-old Odessa man and a 49-year-old Spring Hill man, suffered serious injuries and were lying in the roadway after the initial crash.

Driver stops to help injured riders

A 28-year-old Mulberry woman driving a Chevrolet Cruze stopped to help the injured motorcyclists and parked in the inside emergency lane, according to FHP.

A Dodge Challenger driven by the 22-year-old Wesley Chapel woman then struck the Odessa man as he lay in the roadway.

The impact caused fatal injuries, FHP said.

After striking the motorcyclist, the Challenger left the travel lanes and hit the unoccupied Chevrolet Cruze parked in the emergency lane.

The Spring Hill motorcyclist suffered serious injuries.

FHP has not released the names of those involved or announced any charges. The crash remains under investigation.
