Wesley Chapel drivers heading home on I-75 southbound will hit nightly lane closures at Exit 279 through Thursday, Oct. 15.
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is running overnight closures on three corridors near Wesley Chapel as part of two separate construction projects. The agency's weekly closure schedule lists the work windows. All closures are weather permitting.
I-75 southbound Exit 279 off-ramp to CR 54 (Wesley Chapel Boulevard): Lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly Sunday, Oct. 11, through Thursday, Oct. 15. All turns at the bottom of the ramp remain available while crews work.
SR-56, west of Bruce B. Downs Boulevard to east of Shops Lane: Lane closures from 8:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., nightly Sunday, Oct. 11, through Thursday, Oct. 15. At least one lane stays open in each direction, but no formal detour is posted. The 7:30 a.m. end time means early commuters may still encounter closed lanes.
SR-52, west of I-75 to Tradeway Boulevard/Pasco Road: Periodic lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., nightly Sunday, Oct. 11, through Friday, Oct. 16.
FDOT's weekly notice covers closures only through Oct. 15 or Oct. 16, depending on the corridor. The state's FL511 traffic system lists the SR-56 and SR-52 closures extending through Friday, Oct. 23, according to Wesley Chapel Now's road closure tracker. That likely reflects the broader project timeline rather than a single week's schedule.
What's behind the work
The Exit 279 ramp closures are part of a $1.7 million FDOT project to widen and resurface the southbound off-ramp, adding a second left-turn lane for drivers heading east on CR 54. Blacktip Services Incorporated started the work Oct. 5, and FDOT estimates completion in spring 2027.
The Wesley Chapel Loop reported that during peak hours, vehicles waiting to turn left from the ramp can back up toward the interstate. The ramp serves a heavily trafficked stretch near The Grove at Wesley Chapel, Target and Cracker Barrel.
The SR-56 closures near Bruce B. Downs are tied to a separate $19.8 million milling-and-resurfacing project covering SR-56 and Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. That work began Aug. 24, with Preferred Materials Inc. as the contractor and an estimated completion in fall 2027.
